With a Europa League win over Augsburg, Liverpool are riding high into a League Cup final showdown with Manchester City. While some will try to play down the importance of the impending match, Simon Mignolet believes winning a trophy could jumpstart the club's pursuit of bigger things.
"I remember for Chelsea a few years back, it was the League Cup they won (in Mourinho's first season) and after that, they managed to win a lot of trophies," Mignolet said, via Sky Sports. "It gives everybody a confidence boost when you win your first trophy for a long time,"
"For this young group of lads, I think it could be something that pushes us on to be even hungrier for trophies," he added.
Liverpool's 4-1 win over Manchester City earlier in the season won't soon be forgotten, and the goalkeeper said the performance will give the team confidence heading into the weekend.
"We were very good on the day, we scored some great goals at great moments as well and we didn't give much away," Mignolet said. "With the quality we have in the team, that's very possible every week but every game is totally different."
"We have to make sure we don't get flustered by the occasion, we turn up and give the performance we want to on the day."
