Anyone looking for a little early insight into tonight’s teamsheet for Leeds United in the EFL need look no further than the U23’s, who faced off against Derby County without four key players. Those four, all listed as fit, will at the very least make the matchday squad.
Right back Trent Alexander-Arnold, holding midfielder Kevin Stewart, midfielder Ovie Ejaria, and winger Ben Woodburn all sat against Derby. It might be a stretch to imagine all four starting, but two or even three would hardly shock, especially in attack where Liverpool have some fitness concerns.
Woodburn was given his senior debut on the weekend, with Jürgen Klopp singing the youngster’s praises following the match. With Philippe Coutinho. Adam Lallana, and Daniel Sturridge out, he now looks in line for a potential start tonight. Ejaria could also have a role to play.
For Stewart and Alexander-Arnold, their inclusion in the starting eleven may have more to do with whether Klopp attempts to balance a necessarily young attack with a more settled base. It will also depend, for Stewart, on whether Lucas Leiva starts in midfield or defence.
Regardless, a heavily changed lineup is expected, and we know that four of the club’s U23 regulars will be involved in some capacity at least.
