It’s no secret that Philippe Coutinho is having an outstanding start to the season. The attacking midfielder has recorded 6 goals and 5 assists in his 13 appearances for the Reds, and that new-found consistency has led to a more predominant role in the Brazilian national team.
His performances have also (allegedly) turned the heads of PSG, Barcelona, and Real Madrid. Despite this, boss Jürgen Klopp is still convinced that our Little Magician has a future at Liverpool.
For what it’s worth (which is admittedly not much) Coutinho also appears to be enjoying his time with Liverpool.
“I like the tactical training we are doing,” Coutinho explained in an interview with Sky Sports, “There is a lot of it. [Klopp] is teaching us to press when we don’t have the ball and keeping that pressure up. Then we have to keep possession when we do have the ball. It’s about putting that mentality into us.
“It’s all about the confidence and the mentality that the coach has given us.
“This used to be a team that didn’t really believe in itself. Now the players feel more comfortable and this comes from the coach. That’s something that’s reflected on the pitch and in the results.”
If there’s one thing no one can accuse this Liverpool squad of, it’s lack of confidence. The same certainly couldn’t be said under the previous regime. The additional training time afforded to Liverpool because of the lack of European football is also helping Klopp fully implement his Heavy Metal Football™, much to everyone’s delight. Well, everyone except Liverpool’s opponents.
