With another September upon us, another date circled on the calendars of a lot of football fans around the globe edges nearer: the release of another season of FIFA. For fans of Liverpool looking to lead the club to glory, though, the news isn’t great. That’s because the Reds have no players ranked amongst England’s top 15 or the game’s overall top 50.
He might be Liverpool’s best player, and he may have been one of the finalists for the Premier League’s best last season at the PFA awards, but according to FIFA 16, even Philippe Coutinho doesn’t make the cut. Still, he’s at least rated an 84, and given he’s still only 23 years old it’s likely he’ll have the potential to grow into one of the very best players in this year’s edition of the game.
More bothersome for many Reds fans will be seeing Jordan Henderson only rated a 79, the same mark the game has given him for two seasons now. Given his growth as a player over that time, it seems a touch lazy on the part of the game’s scouts and designers. Simon Mignolet, meanwhile, has dropped by four points over the last two seasons and now sits at only a 78.
Still, there seems a decent, top-four challenging team to be made of the parts this season, and younger players like Firmino, Moreno, Origi, Can, and Ibe should develop quickly if given the playing time. Plus it’s clear the game intends you to start with a Clyne, Skrtel, Sakho, Moreno backline. So that’s a point in FIFA's favour, even if it’s clear they aren’t big fans of Henderson.
