The first time call-ups for Gomez and Ibe are just two of fourteen previously uncapped players to get the nod for matches against the USA and Norway next month as the former Middlesbrough manager looks to bounce back from a disappointing European Championship campaign this summer.
The young lions face off with the United States U23s on home soil on September 3rd before travelling to Norway on September 7th, where Manchester United’s James Wilson and Tottenham Hotspur’s Delle Ali will also likely earn their first international caps.
Jordon Ibe will surely have been on the peripheral with an impressive season-long loan at Derby cut short last season so he could integrate with Liverpool’s senior squad. After carving out a place for himself in preseason, Ibe has featured in all three of Liverpool’s Premier League games so far this season.
Likewise, Joe Gomez has started in all three outings to date and, as it stands, is statistically the Premier League’s leading left fullback, despite not yet turning nineteen and being played out of position.
