With kickoff in Helsinki just a few hours away, it's expected that Brendan Rodgers will field a strong starting eleven, one that will include a number of those selected to face Stoke City in just over a week's time. The likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Martin Skrtel, Philippe Coutinho, and Nathaniel Clyne should start, while Dejan Lovren, Danny Ings, and Jordon Ibe will make a final bid for a starting spot in the season opener.
Those left behind have received plenty of attention themselves, with Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino joining Mamadou Sakho as the most talked about. All three should feature tomorrow against Swindon Town, with the incoming duo taking attention away from Rodgers' curious selections at the back after Times journalist Tony Barrett confirmed that both will be featuring at the County Ground.
Neither will feature the entirety of the match, and the manager confirmed that both are still working their way up to full fitness in his pre-Helsinki presser on Friday:
"They won't be 100 per cent, that will be clear having come back so late. We made the decision to keep them at home to give them those extra few days of training and work, and less travel, because they've come back so late."
Firmino's holiday was extended due to Copa America duties for Brazil, while Benteke's preseason preparations with Aston Villa were interrupted by his move to Merseyside. Seeing both at some point tomorrow will be enough for the short-term, but most will have eyes on next weekend and the weeks to follow, and how the club's two most expensive purchases of the summer will help their new club navigate a challenging few months to open the 2015-2016 season.
