Henderson Eager to Get Back Into the Action with Pre-Season About to Begin

Pre-season training begins on Monday, and presumptive Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is eager to get back out on the pitch and prepare for another campaign.

It feels as though the 2014-15 season only ended, but already players are preparing for another go, and those at Liverpool who had the summer off from international competition, July 6th will mark the start of another pre-season. The goal for the year, says Jordan Henderson, is clear: top four and silverware.

"We need to make sure we start the season well and we're all on the same page in what we want to achieve," said Liverpool’s presumptive next captain. "Getting back into the Champions League is a big objective for us, but also winning trophies—Liverpool Football Club should be winning trophies every year.

"So that's another aim for us. I think it is realistic, with the players we have got and the manager we have got, I feel that we can achieve those things. In the FA Cup, Europa League and League Cup, we want to be challenging and winning."

Fans eager to see Liverpool play again won’t have to wait long, either, with the first pre-season game in a little over a week against a Thai All Stars Squad on July 14th before they continue their tour against Brisbane Roar, Adelaide United, and a Malaysia XI.

If it all seems to be happening a touch earlier than many summers, it is. Thanks to the lack of major global or European tournaments this summer, the Premier League kick off on the weekend of August 8th, with Liverpool playing their first match on the 9th against Stoke City.

"I have been off for two-and-a-half weeks now and it doesn't seem very long, but now I want to get back into training and get my fitness levels back and just play," Henderson added. "You miss it, even though it's a short time, you still miss playing and training. So I look forward to getting back on the ball."
