Daniel Sturridge suffered a hip injury against Blackburn earlier this month and hasn't played since. Since then, Liverpool's attack has looked inept and the team has suffered demoralizing defeats in the FA Cup semi-final to Aston Villa and in the Premier League to Hull City.
The Guardian reports that Sturridge is now in Boston receiving an opinion on his hip to see if he needs to undergo a surgical operation. With the current season looking bleak for the Reds it makes sense for the club to show caution with their star striker, especially given his long injury history. Therefore, even if surgery is deemed unnecessary, it seems likely that he will miss the remainder of the season.
The main objective will be for Sturridge to be completely healthy before the pre-season so he can head into the next campaign at peak form. Until he reaches full fitness, he has no business out on the pitch.
