Martin Skrtel gets a lot of flack from Liverpool supporters due to his inconsistency and nervy play. Sometimes though, Skrtel goes out and completely locks down an opposition attack in a big game. That's what happened yesterday against Manchester City, as Skrtel not only played well on defense but also added a stunning volley to cap off Liverpool's scoring. After the display, Skrtel was given the opportunity to discuss the state of his team and the influence of manager Jürgen Klopp.

"You can see what a difference he has made," Skrtel told the Liverpool Echo about Klopp. "He's very good tactically and he gives players belief. You see his emotion on the touchline."

"He wants us all to be the same - to be fighting for the team and fighting for the club and that's what we're all doing."

There seems to be more cohesion between Liverpool players in recent weeks, but even with more togetherness a match up with Manchester City presented a tough task. Skrtel said that beating City showed a lot about Liverpool's character.

"It's not easy to come here and play like that against City because they have so many great players," he said. "But I think we showed on the pitch what we are able to do and how good we can be. The team performance was top class and now we need to carry on in this way."

"We could have scored more goals and we were much better than them. It was a result we absolutely deserved."
