Entering yesterday's match, Manchester City were clear favorites to take all three points from Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool team. Despite a run of good performances by the Reds against City in recent years, an upset seemed unlikely against a team at the top of the table. But Liverpool went into the Ethiad and dominated for 90 minutes, pulling out an impressive 4-1 victory. City manager Manuel Pellegrini wasn't pleased with the result
"It was a complete disaster, the whole team," said Pellegrini. "I am more than angry. It is unbelievable the performance we had."
"I have never seen this team play in the way they did."
City did lose to Tottenham 4-1 earlier in the year, but that match was played at White Hart Lane. Pellegrini, who has been on the hot seat at City for much of his time as manager, struggled to explain his side's poor performance.
"It is difficult to understand why we should play so badly - not just one name but a complete team in defending or attacking possession."
In sharp contrast to the euphoria surrounding Liverpool after the match, City seem to be reeling.
