Liverpool Reportedly Make Contact with Jürgen Klopp

A day after sacking Brendan Rodgers, reports are emerging that not only is Jurgen Klopp the club's top target, but that Liverpool have now made an approach.

When Liverpool decided to sack Brendan Rodgers just two months into the season after backing him over the summer, many speculated a pair of available big names could have had something to do with it. Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti, two world class managers, were both available, and Liverpool showed no signs of turning things around under Rodgers.

For many, then, there was a real, growing fear that the club could end up holding on to their struggling manager for too long only to see those a-list targets end up at another club. The mood around the club had come to seem a funeral procession, and if Rodgers' sacking truly was a question of when and not if, best to get it over with and bring in the best replacement possible.

According to the BBC, they have taken the first solid step towards doing just that today, making official contact with Klopp's representatives after selecting the German as their top target. The goal would be for a deal to be done within the next few days to allow the new manager to settle at the club and oversee training next week ahead of the match against Tottenham on the 17th.

Reports out of Germany have long suggested Klopp would be open to the move, and the manager has in the past spoken of his fondness of Liverpool. Having seen Rodgers given money to spend and time to make things work at Liverpool, he may also see an opportunity to build something in England as he did with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

However, there remain questions over whether Klopp will be willing to work with the transfer committee at Liverpool, a set-up the owners reportedly plan to keep with the new manager. If he is, though, it is expected a deal could be done quickly to bring him to Liverpool.
