Liverpool Loan Watch: Aspas 4-Minute Hattrick, Brighton Troubles

A busy slate of matches continues into December, and most of the Liverpool loanees have been featuring for their respective teams.

A hectic flurry of action across European leagues means plenty of minutes have been up for grabs by Liverpool loanees, with more to come as the busy holiday season beckons.

Andre Wisdom played the full 90 in each of West Bromwich Albion's three matches in the past two weeks, in which the Baggies defense held two clean sheets. Wisdom has established himself as Alan Irvine's first-choice right back and has by all accounts contributed solidly as West Brom recently halted a four match losing skid. Sebastian Coates earned his first start for Sunderland in a heavy 4-1 defeat to Manchester City. The young Uruguayan struggled to contain Sergio Aguero, as most defenders do, and the Argentine easily beat the defender on his way to a beautiful goal. Sunderland's subsequent match was against Liverpool, so Coates was ineligible, and he was later dropped against West Ham. Oussama Assaidi struggled to make an impact in 77 minutes in Stoke City's 2-1 defeat against Manchester United, and has since been an unused substitute in two matches.

In what could have been a classic matchup between Liverpool loanees, Brighton faced Derby County in the Championship. However, João Carlos Teixeira was sacrificed after 27 minutes in a damage limitation substitution with Brighton already trailing 3-0, and Jordon Ibe did not feature until coming on as a substitute in the 79th minute. Teixeira then played the full 90 in a 1-0 loss to Millwall, Brighton's third defeat in a row, and manager Sami Hyypiä seems unlikely to make it to the new year. Ibe was a substitute once again in Derby's subsequent match as well.

In Europe, Divock Origi continues to struggle finding the net and has now not scored in the league since September for a Lille team that has struggled for form and goals all season, mired now in 12th place in Ligue 1 and having been knocked out of the Europa League weeks ago. Origi still continues to play full matches and serves as a bright spot, but voices clamoring for Origi as Liverpool savior have quieted down somewhat. Elsewhere in France, Tiago Ilori continues to struggle with injury and has not featured for Bordeaux since falling injured in October.

In Spain an interestingly bearded Iago Aspas scored a quite stunning 4 minute hattrick for Sevilla in the Copa Del Rey against Segunda Division strugglers Sabadell, and was promptly dropped to the bench where he has remained ever since. Luis Alberto similarly featured only in Malaga's Cup tie against Deportivo, playing 80 minutes. Rafa Paez played 90 minutes in Bologna's 2-2 draw with Catania, and was an unused substitute in their subsequent match.
