One week now, and today presents the last opportunity for Brendan Rodgers and his squad to get themselves settled for the season ahead. Rodgers will be on a short turnaround after yesterday's 2-0 win away to Helsinki in the last "big" trip of the preseason, while the personnel involved today will have the benefit of at least a week's worth of rest.
It should be a strong squad all things considered, with Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino expected to make their Liverpool debuts at some point, and the likes of Emre Can, Lucas, Joe Allen, and Mamadou Sakho playing a part as well. Those six names alone would feature for most of the sides in England's top flight, and they'll be joined by Kolo Toure, Lazar Markovic, and Alberto Moreno to round out a squad that should be more than capable of finishing off the preseason on a high note.
All eyes will be on the new boys, of course, but each of Can, Lucas, Sakho, and Moreno are auditioning for a starting berth away to Stoke next weekend as well. Fitness might keep Can out regardless, while Benteke and Firmino might find themselves in the same boat given their abbreviated preseasons. Lucas, Sakho, and Moreno have a legitimate claim to starting spot at the Britannia, though, and there's an argument to be made that the strongest eleven at the present time has each of their names in it.
For all involved it will be a chance to transition out of going through the motions and into regular season mode, and hopefully that occurs with minimal fuss, few fitness concerns, and a squad that's ready for the challenges to come in the coming weeks and months.
