Brazil finished as runners-up in the Copa America tournament, losing 1-0 to Argentina. The final was held at the Maracana Stadium in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. A goal by Argentina’s Angel Di Maria in the 22nd minute secured the win, making this Argentina’s first title in 28 years and the first international trophy for Lionel Messi (shocking, but true).

Among the Brazilian Reds, Alisson, Fabinho and Bobby Firmino started the game on the bench. Ederson featured in goal for Brazil. Firmino was subbed on at half time, while Alisson and Fabinho were unused substitutes.

This was Firmino’s fifth appearance of the tournament, and he scored a goal for his country earlier on - in their game against Colombia on June 24th.

Yet Brazil’s performance last night fell short of clinching the winners’ medal.

Brazil won the tournament last year however, and with their runners-up medals this year it’s another honour bestowed upon the three Reds whilst on international duty. They will now return to Liverpool for a brief break followed by pre-season’s activities.
