Raheem Sterling continues to carry the England team as the Three Lions bested Germany 2-0 at Wembley on Tuesday. It was the final day of last-16 matches, with both England and Ukraine making it through to the quarterfinals.

Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for England in the 75th minute, making that his third goal in four games so far in this tournament. He was the only England player to score at all until Harry Kane got them an insurance goal in the 86th minute of this match.

It was an inauspicious end to Joachim Löw’s otherwise impressive time leading Die Nationalmannschaft, but they failed to take advantage of their first half dominance.

Jordan Henderson made a late substitute appearance after the game was already in the bag. He came on in the 88th minute in place of Declan Rice, following Harry Kane’s goal.

Jordan Henderson joins Xherdan Shaqiri for Switzerland and Thiago Alcantara for Spain in the quarterfinals starting this Friday. Switzerland and Spain play against each other in Saint Petersburg on Friday and England takes on Ukraine in Rome on Saturday. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Roberto Firmino and Alisson Becker look to help Brazil beat Chile in the quarterfinals of the Copa America.
