Group D was sorted out this evening when England beat Czech Republic and Scotland fell to Croatia. The top three got a mix up in the final round with England jumping to the top of the group, Croatia right behind them and former leaders Czech Republic in third. Sadly, Scotland stayed at the bottom, ending their tournament with only a single point and a single goal to show for their efforts.
Jordan Henderson played the second half of the match for England, replacing Declan Rice at halftime. Raheem Sterling once against scored the only goal for the Three Lions, but it was enough to see them through to the knockout round.
They will have a challenge ahead of them in the Round of 16 when they face the runner-up from Group F. This could be either France, Germany or current holders Portugal, each of whom will be a tough task. That match will take place on Tuesday, June 29th at Wembley.
Meanwhile, Andy Robertson played out all 90 minutes of Scotland’s 3-1 loss to World Cup runners-up Croatia. The loss guaranteed their early exit from the tournament.
Neco Williams and Wales are through as to the next round as well, and they will play Denmark in Amsterdam in the first match of the round this Saturday.
The fates of Thiago Alcantara’s Spain, Diogo Jota’s Portugal and Xherdan Shaqiri’s Switzerland are not yet decided.
