There were far too many dramatic sporting moments today, but only one of them involved a Liverpool player (we’re not counting a Liverpool charity win here guys, let’s not get carried away). Sadio Mané’s Senegal met Tunisia in the AFCON semi-final and, true to all finals and semi-finals this weekend, the chaotic energy overflowed. Both teams had penalties saved in regular time and Senegal secured their ticket to the final on Friday via an own goal from Tunisia’s Dylan Bronn.
With Firmino and Alisson returning home with Copa America gold medals after Brazil won the cup, Liverpool will be beginning the next season with three of its key players having won international trophies.
Senegal’s FA boss, Saee Seck, has been incredibly impressed with Mané’s entire season.
“Everybody in the world knows that Mane is in the top ten best footballers in the world and he has achieved significant success at Liverpool in the past season,” Seck told the Mirror after Senegal secured their victory.
“He alongside Salah and Firmino are phenomenal,” Seck added before moving on to some absolutely ludicrous suggestions.
“But this is football and he won the Champions League last season and he has the chance to go to Madrid. The career of a footballer is very short and sometimes you don’t get the chance a lot so if it’s there, and I think Zidane likes him, why not?”
Because he just signed a five-year contract with Liverpool, Seck, and we’re going to win the treble next season. That’s why.
