As FIFA, UEFA, and the England FA conspire together to ensure that our players pack in as many games as humanly possible all year-round, it will come as no surprise that there would be some casualties.

The latest is Xherdan Shaqiri, who was playing for Switzerland against England in the Nations League third-place play-off game, and limped off early in the second half.

From a Liverpool perspective, it would be hard to put together a more frustrating than that. The Nations League is a made up tournament, and the exhausted English and Swiss players were forced to play out 120 minutes and penalty kicks when both failed to score in this game that does not matter.

It appeared that Shaqiri had a muscle injury in his calf. He immediately signaled to the bench to be replaced when it occurred, looking extremely pained. No update has been made available yet, so we don’t know the extent of the injury.
