We always knew he had it in him. It was a big night for Gini Wijnaldum in Amsterdam, as he took the pitch for his country wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of Virgil van Dijk.
The Netherlands played their final Euro qualifier against Estonia and went out on a high note, winning the game 5-0. Three of those goals came from Wijnaldum, who put in an incredible performance for all 90 minutes.
He kicked off the scoring in the sixth minute and then polished off his hat-trick with the third and fourth goals in the second half. The Netherlands came in second place in group C behind Germany and succeeded in qualifying for the final this summer.
England, Croatia, and Belgium also made the finals, so there will be plenty of Liverpool players represented when the competition kicks off.
Elsewhere on international duty, Alisson, Fabinho, and Firmino all had a hand in Brazil’s 3-0 victory over South Korea. Divock Origi came off the bench to help Belgium secure their perfect Euro qualifying campaign with a win against Cyprus.
