Liverpool International Roundup: Victories Galore

All in all, it was a good weekend for Liverpool men.

The international break continues for the men’s side, and Liverpool’s internationals mostly had excellent outings this weekend. Both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Trent Alexander-Arnold featured in England’s 4-0 Euro qualifier win against Kosovo, with Oxlade-Chamberlain netting an assist on Harry Winks’ first-half goal. Joe Gomez, who has had a bit of a dramatic week so far, sustained a knock to his knees during training and wasn’t available for the game.

Sadio Mané and Naby Keïta featured in their nations’ victories in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with Senegal winning 4-1 against Eswatini and Guinea beating Namibia 2-0.

Things were slightly less than stellar for the Netherlands, however. The senior team drew against Northern Ireland on Saturday, and Virgil van Dijk withdrew from the Dutch squad right after (and ahead of Tuesday’s match against Estonia) for “personal reasons” according to the Dutch FA. We can only hope those personal reasons are training for Crystal Palace, who Liverpool face next Saturday. Elsewhere, the Dutch U17 team lost 3-1 to France in the World Cup third place play-off, which featured Liverpool’s Ki-Jana Hoever.

International break will be over soon, and hopefully we can get everyone back in one piece. If players could just start citing “personal reasons” and come back to Melwood, that’d be even better.
