Liverpool made some new and exciting additions to their squad this season. Alisson Becker and Naby Keïta have Reds’ fans on the edge of their seats for the season to really get started. However, one player who has already exceeded expectations is one that has been here all along.

Joe Gomez’s first performances at center-back alongside Virgil van Dijk have been nearly perfect. The center-back partnership blossoming between the two of them looks to be something really impressive. Dejan Lovren may find it difficult to work his way back into the team once he’s fit again.

Gomez was given another call-up to the England team on the back of those excellent performances. He joins Liverpool teammates Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Adam Lallana was also called-up but unfortunately had another setback in training that saw him return to Merseyside for rehabilitation.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Henderson gave Gomez his stamp of approval and insisted that the best was yet to come with his Liverpool and Three Lions teammate.

“He’s already very good but he can be even better,” he said. “He’s still very young. He’s still improving, still learning and there’s no better place to do that than at Liverpool with the players that he’s got around him and the manager.

“I’m excited for him because I know how good he can be and he’s got the right mentality as well. He’s very mature for his age. His feet are firmly on the ground and he can be as good as he wants to be.”

After Gomez missed the World Cup due to injury, he’ll be desperate get another chance to prove himself on the international stage when England take on Spain for their first friendly.
