WORLD CUP 2018 | QUARTER-FINALS
Sweden vs. England | 3PM BST/10AM EST
Russia vs. Croatia | 7PM BST/2PM EST
France and Belgium are through, while Roberto Firmino and Brazil are out. Today, we learn the fate of England and Croatia, who take on Sweden and Russia respectively to wrap up the World Cup quarter-finals.
England kick things off, but many Liverpool fans will be trying to juggle two games as the club’s first friendly—and a chance to watch Naby Keïta and Fabinho in action as Liverpool players for the first time—kicks off at the same time. Still, it’s an important game here for England, a chance to advance to the semis, and even if The Three Lions aren’t universally appreciated on Merseyside there will be an awful lot of Liverpool fans caught up in the excitement—but Sweden, who have looked far a better team since moving on from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, can’t be counted out.
Then it’s Russia taking on Croatia, and the clear rooting interest there is Dejan Lovren—who has had a solid and maybe even standout tournament to date for Croatia. On paper, at least, they’re the favourites here. But Russia with their tireless running and home field advantage have exceeded all expectations here at the World Cup and won’t be feeling like underdogs.
