New, comments

Egypt—with or without Mo Salah—play their final World Cup match, but the day’s most important game is Iran vs. Portugal.

WORLD CUP 2018 | DAY TWELVE

GROUP A
Saudi Arabia vs. Egypt | 3PM BST/10AM EST
Uruguay vs. Russia | 3PM BST/10AM EST
GROUP B
Iran vs. Portugal | 7PM BST/2PM EST
Spain vs. Morocco | 7PM BST/2PM EST

We’re into the third round of group games now, and for Egypt and Mohamed Salah it’s the end of the World Cup. They take on Saudi Arabia in their final Group A match but the result doesn’t matter—and there’s a chance Salah, with his shoulder still clearly bothering him in the last match and the player increasingly at odds with the actions of the Egyptian FA, may not play. Meanwhile, in the other Group A match, Uruguay and Russia face off to determine who will finish first and who will finish second.

Things are more interesting—on the pitch at least—later in Group B. Morocco are out, and Spain should be able to get three points against them to ensure they advance, but if they take things easy an upset isn’t impossible. As for Iran vs. Portugal, whichever side wins knows they will advance—and Portugal know a draw is also enough to see them through, though looking for one from the start could be a dangerous approach.
