A great number of Liverpool fans, even (especially) those from Liverpool don’t generally care about international football. However, most will be pulling for Mohamed Salah to at least return to fitness in time to lead the Egyptian national team.
Although the Egyptian medical staff have displayed a great deal of public bravado over the winger’s shoulder (which, in case you don’t remember, was injured by a “coming together” with Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos in the Champions League final), their outward confidence has diminished as Friday’s opening match approaches.
In fact, yesterday Salah did not participate in full team training. Today, however, is a different story. The 40-goal winger joined his national teammates for training, giving the Egypt squad hope that he could join them for the opener.
It is hard to tell what is really going on from the outside, but it looks like Salah’s race to participate on Friday against Uruguay will be a tight one.
If he misses out, he might yet be available for the two other group stage matches, against Russia on July 19th, or against Saudi Arabia on the 25th.
Keep fighting, Mo, you have Egypt and Liverpool Country pulling for you.
