The Alberto Moreno-ssaince continues apace with the beleaguered Liverpool left-back getting his first national team call-up in three years. Moreno, who has been the strongest part of Liverpool’s defense this season, and possibly the only positive that could be said about the back line.
After bringing in the young Andy Robertson at left-back and with rumors swirling for years that he’d be shipped off elsewhere, Moreno has improved considerably this season under Klopp. He’s won back the position from makeshift left-back James Milner and has effectively kept Robertson out of the team.
Now with news of this call-up, Spain boss Julen Lopetegui was asked about his decision to return Moreno back into the La Roja fold.
“Alberto Moreno? He’s a starter for Liverpool," said Lopetegui. "He’s always playing and I know him very well from youth categories. Now I want to see him up close.
"We don’t judge only on what we see in the Champions League.
"We see each player in their surroundings, domestic League and everything they play for."
Moreno will get another chance to prove himself on the international level when Spain compete in two friendlies against Costa Rica and Russia in the coming week.
