Sadio Mane Helps Senegal Qualify for the World Cup

Is an early return to Merseyside on the cards?

Last night in South Africa, Senegal won 2-0, thereby booking their ticket for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Liverpool star winger Sadio Mane, who is fresh off recovering from a recent hamstring injury, played the full 90 minutes. The hope, at least from Liverpool’s perspective, is that Mane can return to Merseyside to recover ahead of next week’s showdown with his former club, Southampton.

Mane originally sustained his hamstring injury in the dying minutes of the last match he played for Senegal.

Klopp made no secrets about his desire to have his star player back, even going as far as to send along Liverpool physios to keep an eye on Mane.

“I have no problems with international games,” Kloppo said. “I'm really happy for Senegal that they could go to the World Cup and they need Sadio Mane for this, I understand, he is fit to play.

“The only thing I would ask is if they can make it in the first game then it would be cool if he could come back and could make the preparations for our game against Southampton.”

Well, they “made it” in the first game, and hopefully Senegal will be willing to uphold their end of the “bargain” that Klopp imposed on them. And, if not, perhaps they could at least not play him for another full match?

Basically, we’re very happy for Mane and Senegal, but please don’t break our player again.
