Liverpool to Face Preston North End In Fourth Round of Carabao Cup

The last time the Reds met Preston was in 2014 for a friendly!

Following Tuesday’s win against Norwich City in the third round of the Carabao Cup, Liverpool are through to the next round, drawing northern neighbors Preston North End for the upcoming fourth round.

Preston defeated Cheltenham Town in their third round matchup by a scoreline of 4-1 on their home turf, which the Reds have to visit at the end of October for the fourth round.

Liverpool and Preston haven’t played each other since a 2014 friendly match, featuring such names as Philippe Coutinho, Joe Allen, Jose Enrique, Ricky Lambert, Jordan Ibe, and Suso.

A lot has definitely changed since then, considering - and apologies for reminding everyone of their mortality - it’s been seven long years.

What else was happening in the summer of 2014? Well this match happened just a week after Luis Suarez’s departure. Liverpool were struggling with the hangover of the 2013-2014 season and losing the league by that much. Jordan Rossiter playing at the age of 17. Brendan Rodgers was expecting the likes of Ricky Lambert and Fabio Borini to take over the attack and refusing to work with FSG in finding a suitable replacement. Steven Gerrard was probably thinking, yeah it’s about time to go.

Man, it was a wild time.

Currently, Liverpool are in a much better place, having finally won the league but still chasing a couple of those elusive domestic cups. Preston will likely be looking to do some giant killing, as the likely date for the match will land after Liverpool’s visit to Old Trafford and before the Brighton Seagulls come to town.
