It’s been an exciting experience for the young Liverpool academy players who were invited to train with the first team in Austria for the preseason. But as the summer has gone on, the senior players who represented their countries have slowly filtered to Austria as their time off ended.
The most recent returns are the three Brazilian players who lost to Argentina in the Copa America final last month. With Alisson, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho back in the picture, the only first team player missing is captain Jordan Henderson, who represented England in the Euro final loss to Italy.
The whole operation has moved to France for the final leg of their preseason, and to accommodate the returning players, Klopp has sent some of the younger players back to Kirkby to finish their preseason training.
The players returning to Merseyside include Harvey Davies, Conor Bradley, Billy Koumetio, Jake Cain, Tyler Morton and Mateusz Musialowski. The last few preseason friendlies are always when the coach gets serious about getting his preferred team and formation together for the upcoming season. Therefore, it makes sense that some of the young players dipping their toes into first team training would be better served back in Liverpool.
The next preseason matches are on this Thursday when the Reds are scheduled to play two 60 minute friendlies against Bologna.
