An unfortunate own goal by on-loan Liverpool FC’s Sepp van den Berg condemned Preston North End to their third straight defeat against Huddersfield, keeping them at the bottom of the Championship table.
Preston succumbed to defeat after not taking their chances in the first half in which they were the better team. The goal arrived 74 minutes, with Huddersfield’s Josh Koroma sending a through-ball to substitute Duane Holmes. Van Den Berg’s attempted to intervene but the ball went past goalkeeper Daniel Iversen and into the bottom corner instead.
Sepp returned to Preston North End this summer after a half-season loan to the same club last season. In the summer, he spoke of his goal to start in his natural position at the centre of defence this season, after mainly featuring at right-back last year. However, in the three games so far, Sepp has lined up to the right of a three-man defence, in what looks like a right wingback role.
