It’s only the first week of the brand new Premier League season, but it’s never too soon to talk about Liverpool’s chances to lift another title. Former Liverpool captain Graeme Souness was on Sky Sport’s roundtable following Manchester City’s shocking lost to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
“I think they [Liverpool] will be there or thereabouts.” Souness said. “I think the top four will be fighting all the way and I will go as far as saying the league won’t be decided by April, it will go right to the wire as there are some very good teams this year. I would like to see them (Liverpool) spend a little bit more but they score goals for fun.”
It’s not necessarily a hot take to say that a healthy Liverpool has a chance of lifting number 20 at the end of the season, but Souness speaks in cliches about Liverpool’s chances.
“I think it is very easy to look at Liverpool and talk about their front three and how special they are, but I think a lot of their great play comes from their midfield. I’d like to see something else in midfield. It is going to be a long hard season but they have Virgil Van Dijk back, and Liverpool won’t be far away.”
Of course, pundits on TV always have to talk about this stuff whenever City (or Liverpool) lose. But Souness couches his predictions pretty well. We will see indeed.
