Once a rumored Liverpool target—well, you know how it goes.

Wolves Adama Traore isn’t quite in the Lorenzo Insigne or Piotr Zielinski echelon of the Reds transfer rumor hall of fame, but he’s not all that far off.

Last time Traore to Anfield surfaced in the rumor mill, Wolves were in desperate need of cash coming out of the pandemic-ravaged season and Leeds had entered the picture as competition for the Spaniard’s signature.

A few months before that, there was talk that the Midlands club had slashed their asking price by nearly half from an unreasonable £75m to a much more achievable £45m.

Now, Football Insider is reporting that the Reds have made a formal enquiry into the 25-year-old’s availability, with Michael Edwards and the transfer team sensing that now would be the time to strike and secure a cut rate deal.

The Spanish international is entering the final two years of his current deal and notably halted negotiations with his current club on a possible extension last October amidst transfer talk. An underwhelming season personally was part of a poor campaign for the Wolves collectively, leading to the mutual parting of ways between the club and manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

With ex-Benefica boss Bruno Lage now in charge in Wolverhampton, it remains to be seen whether Traore remains in the club’s long-term as a full-scale rebuild begins.

Liverpool meanwhile are looking to bolster their attack with expected outgoings of the likes of Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri leaving positions open in the squad. Whether Traore is capable of following in former teammate Diogo Jota’s footsteps in making the step up to a top squad like Liverpool remains to be seen, but it is certainly a transfer to keep an eye on.
