This summer’s business is crucial for Liverpool to get right. They have a lot of decisions to make about the squad. Several players on the team are in the ‘Stick or Twist’ category, including the youngster Harvey Elliott. Obviously Liverpool aren’t looking to sell him, but they do need to decide whether or not he needs to go on loan again.

According to a non-David Maddock journalist at The Mirror, Watford are interested in bringing the winger in on loan. It’s also been reported this week that Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is keen on bringing the lad into the preseason training camp after his impressive spell at Blackburn.

Former Liverpool player Stewart Downing was Elliott’s teammate last season and has nothing but positive things to say about the kid.

“From what I’ve seen up to now, he’s going to be in the Premier League for sure,” he told Goal.

“I know [ Bournemouth manager] Jonathan Woodgate well, and he’s quite close to [Liverpool sporting director] Michael Edwards. He asked me about Harvey when he came to Blackburn, and I was like ‘f****** hell, he’s brilliant!’

“It’s his game-understanding, when to pass the ball, when to dribble, when to come inside, when to stay wide. For someone so young, it’s top-drawer.”

Liverpool are probably going to sign a forward in this transfer window, which could have ramifications for Elliott this summer. The backroom staff needs to decide if its better for Elliott to play with the first team or if it would be better served for him to get loaned out to a team further down the premier league table.
