Every big club is eager to buy some of the world class talent available in the upcoming summer transfer window, but for many, the pandemic has left them with eyes bigger than their wallets.

For example, as much as Kylian Mbappe trading Paris St. Germain for Real Madrid appears written in the stars, the Spanish giants find themselves so broke that they find themselves still clinging to the potentially lucrative Super League long after the football world abandoned the doomed proposal.

And yet, were Madrid chief Florentino Perez to somehow scrounge together enough change from beneath the sofa cushions to win the Mbappe sweepstakes, the French press believe that it could set off a wave of transfers that could reach as far as Merseyside.

Le Parisien reports that one such transfer could involve PSG moving for restive Liverpool star Mohamed Salah. The paper indicates that the French giants have identified the Egyptian as the top candidate to replace Mbapper were the latter to move on this summer.

The news comes at a time in which the relationship between Liverpool and Mohamed Salah has been tetchy of late. The Reds have allowed their leading scorer’s contract to tick down to the two year mark even as he has spent the season flirting with La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid in the Spanish press.

The 28-year old also revealed that the “no one at the club” has even approached him about extending his stay with the club he has helped return to the heights of European football.

Regardless of the situation between Salah and the club, anything happening this summer would most likely depend on whether Mbappe, himself heading into the final year of his contract, sets off a chain reaction of transfers by forcing a move this summer.

A trying season that has seen the Reds succumb to injuries in their tumble from Premier League champions to seventh place could force a squad refresh that sees Liverpool sell their most marketable asset at the height of his value.
