Harry Wilson spearheaded a strong victory for Cardiff City against Birmingham City in the Championship on Saturday. With Cardiff stuck in 8th place and Birmingham City at the bottom of the table, neither team had much to play for. However, the players will still be pleased with a good performance away from home as the season nears its close.
Cardiff kept a clean sheet while putting four past their opponents, three of them thanks to Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson.
His first came only nine minutes in when he cut out a pass from a Birmingham defender and got it into the back of the empty goal. The other two were free kicks, one near half time and the other the final goal of the game on 86’.
After the match, Wilson said, “Going into the game, a lot of people were saying it was a bit of a dead rubber, but we didn’t see it as that. I certainly didn’t see it like that personally; I saw it as a chance to put in a good performance and try to get my numbers up at the end of the season.
“On an individual note, I was delighted to do that, but as a team I think we defended well then, going forward, scored four goals – on another day we could have had even more.”
Those three goals put him on seven for the season in the 36 games he played for the Bluebirds. He’s also picked up an impressive 12 assists as well.
Elsewhere, Marko Grujic has scored the decisive goal for FC Porto in their 3-2 victory over Famalicao.
