Now that all the games have concluded, Jürgen Klopp has been named the Premier League Manager of the Month for May. The Liverpool boss pulled his team together to mount a perfect run to the end the season.
Most importantly, that 15 points from five games secured them Champions League football next season, a feat many thought was impossible as recently as March or April. Nothing less than perfection could have seen the Reds climb back into the top four. Despite the pressure of their position, Klopp managed to guide the team through every test, including a trip to Old Trafford, where they racked up four goals against their rivals.
Making his achievement more impressive was the long and well-documented list of injured players that Klopp and the team were forced to be without. He also continued to get the best out of Gini Wijnaldum as the season wound down, even though both player and manager knew that the Dutchman’s time with the team was coming to an end.
Few would be surprised if this was the last of Klopp’s managerial honors for the way he navigated the team through such rough waters this season. Certainly a strong argument could be made for him winning the manager of the year award as well.
