The day began with Liverpool all but having their own destiny in their hands, and they did not disappoint. Sadio Mane scored a brace and was sensational all game. Thiago Alcantara ran the game from midfield, winning balls left and right and showing his world-class passing. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson generated chance after chance on the wing, with both doing their defensive duties as well. Alisson made a couple of big saves early, and showed some fancy footwork with the ball at his feet under pressure. And Gini — this is more of an emotional addition for me. It was likely his last game for Liverpool, and he thankfully got his standing ovation from the Kop.
With our favored polling tool out of service, we’re instead giving you a choice between a few of the players we thought looked best today for the Reds, so make your choice below and vote for who you think should be the man of the match—or take to the comments to let us know that we got it wrong by leaving the real man of the match off the list entirely.
As always, anyone visiting on Apple News or Google AMP who wish to vote and can’t see the poll can make it visible by navigating to the front page of The Liverpool Offside and re-entering the story.
