This is a dated reference since we, as a society, seem to have decided to forget that Games of Thrones ever existed, but when it comes to Sergio Ramos, I am like Arya Stark, mumbling his name under my breath and vowing revenge every night before bed. After Ramos dislocated Mohamed Salah’s shoulder in the 2017-18 Champions League final, he jumped to the top of my List. If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself on this list, I will spend my days hoping you never beat a red light or miss a freight train, always accidentally leave your phone charger at home and that they stop making your favorite snack food. I am ruthless and cold-blooded, is my point.
So when it was announced that Liverpool were set to face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinal, that old grudge that usually just hums around in the back of my mind came roaring up to the surface.
Marca only managed to fan the flames of my ire by leading with this headline.
#LaPortada "Este equipo quiere más" ️ pic.twitter.com/ml417cUehG
— MARCA (@marca) March 19, 2021
Translated, it says, “THIS TEAM WANTS MORE” along with a picture of Ramos’ attempted non-consensual limb removal that resulted in Salah missing most of the 2018 World Cup.
I see you, Marca. Good luck ever getting a real person on the phone when you have a customer service question or finding your favorite socks after you do the laundry.
I understand that the Ramos-Salah rhetoric is going to hit insane levels as we ramp up to the matches, but I need to vent this here now. Tell me I hold a grudge. Tell me I’m being over-dramatic. Tell me that’s just football. No really, go ahead and tell me. THEN SEE HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR YOUR FAVORITE PODCAST TO POST A NEW EPISODE.
Anyway, Sergio Ramos can go pound sand. My greatest sadness is that Liverpool fans won’t be in the stadium to give Ramos the welcome he deserves.
