As the rumour of Alisson being out for the Brighton game made its way across the Twittersphere, fans understandably got worried. Thankfully, it was illness-related as opposed to some form of injury. Caoimhin Kelleher again stepped in between the sticks to fill in, and earned some kind words from the boss, in a team display that frankly didn’t deserve much credit. Speaking to Liverpool FC’s official website on whether he was surprised with Brighton’s performance, Klopp chimed:
Not at all. I said before the game, I see Brighton quite frequently. They were good. So they had a few counter-attacks when we tried really hard, that’s when Caoimhin was outstanding and kept us in the game. Definitely if we are 1-0 up they don’t have these counter-attacks, that’s clear.
Kelleher really couldn’t do anything about Brighton’s goal, but really had just about everything else covered. He’s been dependable when called upon, and the understudy spot looks like it’s his to keep, with the impending departure of Adrian this summer. It looks like our no. 2 spot will be in safe hands for the foreseeable future.
