Things are pretty bad right now if you’re a Liverpool fan. The Champions are of course in an injury-ladened slump and the football isn’t very good. In times of trouble I think it’s good to reflect back and remember other times you’ve dealt with difficulties. However bad things are right now, it’s important to remember that at one time Jonjo Shelvey was a Liverpool player.
“I wanted to go somewhere and not worry about if you have one bad game you’re still going to play, and I’d had that at Charlton.” Shelvey said recently on Charlie Austin’s podcast, Studs Up.
“When you go to Liverpool, you play a game and someone comes back from injury and they’ve got a bigger name and they’re straight back in the team even if you’d done really well – I wanted to get away from that.”
Shelvey left Liverpool in the summer of 2013 and joined Swansea City for £5m.
As for the transfer, Shelvey was clear: “I would say I was quite cheap at the time.”
