Deadline day had been a good day for Liverpool, until now. Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool defender Joel Matip will miss the remainder of the 2020/2021 season due to an injury to his ankle.
Matip had only just returned from injury to play a key role in the big match last week against Tottenham, but in that game he only lasted until half time.
“Unfortunately, we found out now after everybody looked at it that Joel will be out for the rest of the season.” Klopp said.
“It was really unlucky because it was a brilliant challenge he made actually, he saved our life in that moment in the Tottenham game when he won the challenge against Son.”
Liverpool managed to bring in two defenders before they announced the Matip news. First, they signed Ben Davies from Preston North End in the Championship for a small transfer fee.
Not stopping there, Liverpool managed to get Ozan Kabak from Schalke 04 in Germany on a loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy for £18 million should the team be impressed by the player.
