Shkodran Mustafi is seeking to terminate his Arsenal contract and whether he can do so successfully will determine who Liverpool bring in—but it’s not Mustafi on the Reds’ wishlist.
Instead, it’s Schalke’s Ozan Kabak. However, for Kabak to depart the Bundesliga’s last place and worst defensive side to join the Reds—and hopefully show Schalke’s struggles aren’t on him—the Germans need a replacement.
That replacement will be Mustafi if all goes to plan, with Sky reporting a six-month deal has been agreed between him and Schalke and that now the only thing that’s holding up a move is terminating his Arsenal deal.
With Arsenal previously reported to be desperate to unload Mustafi and willing to terminate his contract to get it done as was the case with Sokratis Papastathopoulos, it seems likely his move to Schalke will be completed.
However, rumours elsewhere suggest that with the Transfer window closing five hours earlier in Germany than England, if the deals for Mustafi and then Kabak can’t be done in time, the Reds do have other options.
