Liverpool FC Women announced today that their match on Sunday will be postponed due to the team having three positive Covid-19 tests among their senior squad. It was set to be a home match at Prenton Park against London Bees.

According to the team’s press release, this is the first set of positive tests the team has experienced during this pandemic. The positive results came as players returned from the FA WSL 2’s Christmas break. Three more players are in self-isolation because of close contact with the players who tested positive.

Typically, teams that have positive tests would still play their fixtures as planned, but Liverpool have a bit of an injury crisis at the moment and are unable to field a full squad of players due to the Covid-19 situation at the club. With four players currently injured, the squad is reduced to nine senior players and four U21s.

According to their release, a request from LFC for a postponement of the FA Women’s Championship game was approved today by the FA’s Executive Operational Committee.

The match will be rescheduled at the earliest possible opportunity.
