For the third game in a row in the Premier League, Liverpool dominated the run of play, but failed to find the net. Thiago Alcantara, in his starting debut at Anfield, ran the game from his central midfield position. His passing range and vision generated plenty of opportunities for the Reds. On the defensive side, Liverpool’s two central midfielders partnering in the center of defense were stellar snuffing out most of Manchester United’s attacks. Fabinho was immense, winning challenge after challenge. Jordan Henderson was also quite stout in the back, and acquitted himself well after a nervy showing against Southampton. Alisson Becker came up huge in the second half, making several point blank saves (though one or two ended up being offside).
With our favored polling tool out of service, we’re instead giving you a choice between a few of the players we thought looked best today for the Reds, so make your choice below and vote for who you think should be the man of the match—or take to the comments to let us know that we got it wrong by leaving the real man of the match off the list entirely.
As always, anyone visiting on Apple News or Google AMP who wish to vote and can’t see the poll can make it visible by navigating to the front page of The Liverpool Offside and re-entering the story.
