Following on the heels of images released at the beginning of December showing Virgil Van Dijk exercising in the club’s new AXA Training Center, Van Dijk posted a montage video of himself working on a stationary bike earlier this week.

The video generated the expected level of excitement, as the defender’s mobility following his successful surgery is something fans love to see.

Asked to comment this week, manager Jürgen Klopp had measured positive news — with a note of caution:

“I’m happy when I see these videos, to be honest, because it just shows that he makes good progress. But it will still take a lot of time, that’s how it is.”

That his recovery is progressing positively is good news, as these injuries can be tricky. Rather than being exhausted by the constant questions around Van Dijk, Klopp was pleased to speak on it.

“I have no problem with talking about Virgil van Dijk. It’s very good but still a long way to go, that’s this kind of injury.”

While no one expects Van Dijk to return to action quickly, it’s heartening for fans to see him back at work in the gym (and smiling from the bench at Anfield) as the side soldiers on without him.
