LIVERPOOL VS VFB STUTTGART
| Saturday, August 22nd |
Pre-Season | Saalfelden Arena
5:00PM BST/12:00PM EST
In the most recent abnormality in a highly abnormal year, Liverpool announced their first pair of pre-season games with only a few days of warning. The first announced match is against recently-promoted Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart at the Saalfelden Arena, home of third-tier Austrian side FC Pinzgau Saalfelden. The size of the stadium is irrelevant, of course, since their will be no fans allowed in attendance for the match.
They are still doing their fitness training in Austria in preparation for the Community Shield match against Arsenal and then the kick-off of the next Premier League season.
Having just finished the season last month, and after getting plenty of rest during the lockdown, legs should be fresh and fitness should be high. One player we know Klopp will have to do without is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who will be out through the first few games of the season with a new knee injury. Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip are both in Austria with the rest of the team, but they are also unlikely to be risked.
As always with these gentle, pre-season warm-up matches, expect to see an ecclectic line-up of youngsters, veterans, and players who already have one foot out the door.
