If infection rates among players and staff remains low, the Premier League is likely to resume in two weeks. While no official schedule has yet been released, the thinking so far is that teams with games in hand will be the first to play on June 17th, with the remaining teams resuming on the weekend.
This is a good idea: get all the teams on the same number of games, so if the season has to once again be stopped, the league could be more justified in simply ending the season.
However, because old habits die hard, the FA apparently wants to run the remaining matches of the FA Cup concurrently with the EPL matches, instead of waiting to complete that competition separately.
From my perspective, this seems a bit silly. The players, many of whom will not be match fit, will already be overworked from league exertions. Also, it remains an open question whether we can complete the one, most important, competition. Adding a second rather unnecessarily complicates the situation.
But the FA gonna FA. Their winning streak of making sensible decisions was long overdue to end.
