Welp, after three months waiting for the return to play, it was a predictably rusty display against a stubborn Everton side. While the display was disappointing over all, there were some nice individual efforts.
Jordan Henderson was his usual solid, dependable self. He popped up everywhere to win challenges, and did a great job running down Richarlison in the first half. Naby Keïta made the most of his time on the field, and showed his class and efficient use of the ball. Joël Matip also impressed before having to come out injured in the second half. Matip dropped a couple great diagonal balls onto attackers. Joe Gomez was forced to come on at left back for the injured James Milner and acquitted himself well. He provided much more of an attacking threat down the left than expected, and shut down the attacks down his side.
With our favored polling tool out of service, we’re instead giving you a choice between a few of the players we thought looked best today for the Reds, so make your choice below and vote for who you think should be the man of the match—or take to the comments to let us know that we got it wrong by leaving the real man of the match off the list entirely.
As always, anyone visiting on Apple News or Google AMP who wish to vote and can’t see the poll can make it visible by navigating to the front page of The Liverpool Offside and re-entering the story.
