There’s still one more day left before Liverpool comes back into our lives, but English football has started up, and the first Liverpool player has made their mark. Rhian Brewster, on loan in the Championship with Swansea City, scored a brace in their match against Middlesbrough on Saturday.
The 20-year-old grabbed a first half brace, opening up the scoring in the 18th minute with a close range effort and then doubled the Swans’ lead only three minutes later with a volley.
Swansea City went onto win the game 3-0.
The ecstatic Brewster made a post on Twitter later that afternoon commemorating the moment.
He also showed off his undershirt, on which was written ‘our colour is not a crime’ — a reference to the Black Lives Matter movement and the protests that have been going on around the world over the past couple of weeks.
On the player, Swansea manager said, “Rhian looked a real threat, got his two goals and he’s disappointed he didn’t have three. He’s a really good player but we are a team that likes to play as a team.
“Rhian obviously will get some headlines because he got a brace but it’s as a consequence of the team playing the way we want to play.”
Hopefully this excellent performance is a good omen for the rest of the team when they come back against Everton on Sunday evening.
