Takumi Minamino may be getting a new friend at Anfield, if rumours out of Italy are to be believed. His former Salzburg teammate, the 19-year-old midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, may be on his way to Liverpool.
According to Italian press outlets — always a good source of information when it comes to Hungarian footballers who are playing in Austria and potentially transferring to England — the Reds have their eyes on bringing the young midfielder to Merseyside.
Szoboszlai is said to be valued at £30m and under contract with the Austrian club until 2022.
Liverpool are not the only team said to be interested. They will have to fend off interest from the likes of Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig. The biggest competitor is said to be AC Milan.
On that potential movie, Szoboszlai went on the record to say, “If it were to go through, it means that it was destined. The final decision is up to me, but I also have other proposals. I will make the choice I think is best for my career.”
With Adam Lallana likely out whenever the season finally ends, and James Milner getting another year old, the club is likely to be on the look out for some extra cover in the midfield. Whether that player will be Szoboszlai is a different matter, but it’s guaranteed that we will see some new faces around Melwood — just as soon as the transfer window actually starts.
