As we wrote about yesterday, alongside Curtis Jones, Neco Williams has impressed when given his first team chances in the League and FA Cups. Unfortunately, with the exit from the FA Cup, it’s unlikely that we’ll see much of either player before the end of the season.
Regardless, Williams is thankful for his experience, and the trust given to him by none other than boss Jurgen Klopp.
“I’ve played against top, top players and that’s the only way you are going to learn,” Willimas told the club’s official website. “The better players and the better opponents you play against are going to improve you as a player.
“I think that’s what’s happening to me so hopefully I’ll continue to get more chances, keep improving and get more chances to impress the boss. I’ve just got to keep working hard in training, keep giving 100 per cent and hopefully the boss may choose me.
“I’m just grateful for every game I play. The more games I play the more confident I’m going to get. I’m just thankful for the boss choosing me and trusting me.”
This is all young-player-trying-to-breakthrough talking points 101, but at least he got that part right.
Aside from being “just” incredibly boss at the footy this season, seeing certain youth and fringe players (shoutout to Pedro Chrivella) shine when given the opportunity has been one of the highlights in a highlight-heavy campaign.
If the league gets wrapped up early-ish (still a strong likelihood), and if we get through Atletico Madrid (iffy), there’s a chance we’ll get to see more of Williams et al. So let’s hope that’s the case!
